Hack a bike

This is at least 3 years old news, but still very interesting. Members of the Chaos Computer Club managed to install a back door into 10% of the bicycles offered by Deutsche Bahn’s Call a Bike service.

This backdoor makes someone aware of it able to use the bikes for free.

I am wondering anyone managed hacking the similar bikes in Vienna or Barcelona.

The New Yorker style

According to wikipedia The New Yorker magazine has a distinctive typography style: One uncommonly formal feature of the magazine’s in-house style is the placement of diaeresis marks in words with repeating vowels—such as reëlected and coöperate—in which the two vowel letters indicate separate vowel sounds.

Well, Hungarian and German have these kind of marks by default.

LinuxBIOS is no more. coreboot is the next thing.

Ironically, in my LinuxBIOS speech I mentioned my thoughts about the name itself: outdated.

Now the group had chosen to change the name, to reflect the projects plans better. LinuxBIOS v3 does not contains any Linux code, nor its purpose is to boot a Linux kernel, it is just a core to boot specific payloads, hence the name coreboot.

The new webpage is at coreboot.org, and the Subversion repositories are renamed aswell.

SVOPC

Per Wikipedia:

SVOPC (ang. Sinusoidal Voice Over Packet Coder) is a lossy speech compression codec designed specifically towards communication channels suffering from packet loss.

SVOPC is the latest speech codec used in Skype conference chats. Not much is known about it yet, but my personal taste is that iLBC sounded much better.

Intel Mac hardware in QEmu

Alexander Graf added emulation of Intel Mac to Qemu, it is mostly a clean code, and it can be clearly seen what kind of protection the Macs have.
