Google Politics

Google has a political orientation?

Today for some reason I wrote “john” into Google search and pressed the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button. Next page was http://www.johnkerry.com/.
-break->

As next step I tried “george” to see how polite it is, as expected, it’s not Bush’s page, but [The George Washington University|http://www.gwu.edu]. Neither “bush” brings to his site, but to the Whitehouse. Apparently georgebush.com goes to his party page and the Whitehouse should be his site.

Is that a coincidence?

Anyway, I am a european guy, without interested that much in US politics, neither I am standing on any of the parties there, and possibly would never searched for these if the term “john” would not bring me to a political page. I like Google search, it makes my life easier and I never need to search for political terms :)

Update:

  • [MassPerception.com|http://www.massperception.com/2005/09/13/the-great-google-tells-all/] has a similar story about the term “failure”.
  • [Samicola|http://samicola.blog-city.com/googles_politics.htm] reports the same as I.
