Accurate railway timeplan
Hungarian State Railways has an accurate timeplan. Last time I was traveling from Vienna to Budapest, I took the regional express at 17:46 from Sudbahnhof, which goes through Bruck a. d. Leitha and Hegyeshalom to Gyor. In Gyor there are two possibilities: one to take the UNIQA InterCity (which comes from Szombathely), to change trains you have exactly four minutes; or wait a 45 minutes for the express between Hegyeshalom and Budapest.

The 4 day Bp-Vienna-Bp tourist ticket, which includes unlimited use of the public transport in Vienna inside the Zone 100, apparently is valid without an extra reservation ticket for the Dortmund-Bp EuroCity, but not for hungarian InterCity’s. One is supposed to buy a place reservation ticket in that four minutes.
Once I was brave enough to take the IC without that reservation, thanks god I had not to pay penalty. Last time I thought it’s better to buy it, so did I. However it wasn’t the easiest task…
The regional express arrived 2 minutes late, walked down to the cashier, waited in the spool, and finally asked for one reservation ticket. The lady said that the train is already gone, at least after she looked at her watch she thinks it’s gone.
Walking back to the platform. Lotsa folks are standing there, and they say the train is just arriving. OMG. Running back to the cashier.
She says that creating the ticket is so much time I will definitely fail to catch the train, and there is no way getting back that money. She looks unrelenting. After 30 seconds of anxious suspense the ticket is finally ready, now back to the train. That 20 meters looked like a never ending marathon.
Successfully catched the train. Nevertheless it was more late, like waiting 10 more minutes at the station. I will never throw that reservation ticket out as it has been created at 19:28 for the train leaving at 19:24.
Accurate. Isn’t it?
