Intel Mac hardware in QEmu · 15 January 2008 by Alex Beregszaszi

Alexander Graf added emulation of Intel Mac to Qemu, it is mostly a clean code, and it can be clearly seen what kind of protection the Macs have.

He just submitted the patches to QEmu last week.

Apple uses Windows · 27 March 2007 by Alex Beregszaszi

Before I sold my iBook, I have been curious about the Apple EFI implementation. Downloaded the EFI firmware update for the MacMini and looked into the binaries, with my favourite first-line-reverse-engineering tool: string.

For my biggest surprise, it contained C:\... path names among those
“All Rights Reserved” fear Apple lines.

The path names definitely looked like, that the BIOS, err, I mean EFI was compiled on Windows.

Isn’t that depressing for an Apple fanboy? :)

Silent Bob uses a Mac · 29 May 2006 by Alex Beregszaszi

Just read an ad about Clerks II (spolier warning!) coming this summer. After some browsing, I came around Kevin Smith’s personal blog, who is the author of the movies, and also plays Silent Bob.

There is a Flickr band on the blog, featuring Bob’s working room, where a Studio Display and a PowerMac G4 is visible:

Apple notebook accessories · 6 May 2006 by Alex Beregszaszi

Once you buy a pricey mobile Macintosh, you may consider saving it from scratches inside and out. Sadly I bought a Tucano Second Skin just after my machine got scratches, next time I would be faster. Here is a list of nice accessories:

Sleeves:

Screen and keyboard textiles:

Hopefully after this the machine is saved from scratches, but not from fingerprints and heavy usage of the keyboard. After two years use, the painting is almost gone on mine from the A, S, E and cursor keys.

Better get a stand (like the Griffin iCurve) and use an external keyboard and mouse.

I have to admit that there are too much Radtech ads here, but the products itself (even if they are just too basic) rock. Hey, Radtech, you care about donating some?:)

Being a Mac nerd, lesson 1: Spinner shirt · 23 March 2006 by

I have to admit that I am using an iBook at least since two years now and I am fully satisfied with it. Altought a PowerBook 12” with CardBus (better ExpressPort) would be better.

Even some times I am using MacOS X on it, but that primary system is some Linux distro as this is my main coding platform. When using OSX I have been always fascinated by the graphical richness every well written program provides, even third parties. One of the most exciting design comes from the Panic Inc.

Szaboat just showed today a picture on Flickr, look what the guy is wearing! A blank t-shirt with the Mac spinner, awesome. Panic sells it, available here. Also dont forget looking at the action shots.
